TY - JOUR PY - 1980// TI - Inmate Assimilation A Comparison of Male and Female Delinquents JO - Criminal justice and behavior A1 - Zingraff, Matthew T. SP - 275 EP - 292 VL - 7 IS - 3 N2 - Several explanatory variables derived from the importation and deprivation models of imprisonment are employed in a multivariate design in an attempt to assess the relative predictive strengths of both perspectives. Data obtained from two juvenile correctional facilities in the Southeast, one male and one female, are used in the analysis. The findings indicate that the deprivation model is the better predictor of prisonization for males. For females, variables from both models appear to have a significant impact. For both males and females, the merger of the two models explains more of the variation in prisonization than any one taken separately. The implications of these findings are discussed.
