TY - JOUR PY - 1952// TI - Traffic accidents and roadside features JO - Highway Research Board bulletin A1 - McMonagle, J. Carl SP - 38 EP - 48 VL - 55 IS - N2 - The michigan study of roadside features as elements in the accident picture resulted in some general findings about certain basic elements of the accident situations which have developed on highways which traverse suburban areas. A limited number of conditions under which accidents took place were recorded to determine, if possible, the relative importance of individual types of features in creating hazards for traffic. The study indicates that intersections are centers of traffic hazards and that hazards increase when the complexities of traffic movement at these points are further complicated by roadside commercial developments. Every effort should be made to provide highways in suburban areas which will protect the mainstream of traffic from interference from the roadside.
