N2  - Strategies for suicide prevention in Archangels oblast, North-West Russia Since 1995 there has been collaboration between the psychiatric department at the University Hospital of Northern Norway, Tromso¸ and the Mental Hospital in Archangels and Northern State University in Archangels. The activities in the project have up to now concentrated upon increasing competence and changing attitudes of the professionals (scientific co-operation, seminars, and educational programs). So far hospital treatment has been the main focus in the project. Development of decentralized psychiatric services is in the early beginning in Northern Russia, so also primary health care. Suicide prevention is an important task in the Russian society. Suicide rate in the Archangels region is above the rate for the Russian federation. To find proper interventions for suicide prevention has been a topic in the collaboration. A suicide intervention training program in collaboration with VIVAT in Norway and Living Works in Canada was tried out. This program will not be continued. The psychiatric department in Archangels now has a plan to establish in the Archangels oblast and the workshop will be part of this process. This workshop has been planned by a joint group of Russians and Norwegians.<p />  <p>Language: en</p>
