Persons i.e. patients were analyzed who were examined and treated in the Psychiatric Clinic of KBC Rijeka due to a suicide attempt in the randomly chosen period (June 1999 to November 2000). Methods: A sociodemografic questionnaire, A questionnaire about characteristics of suicide attempt, A questionnaire about psychic disturbances and A questionnaire about suicide related statements were used to assess the mentioned persons i.e. patients. Results: There were 45 persons i.e. patients. Women participated somewhat more-24 (53%). The majority of them had not made any suicidal plans - 32 (71%). They suffered from depression and they took some kind of medication to treat it - 27 (60%). Most of them stated that "person who commits suicide doesn't only kill himself but also the people around him" - 40 (89%). They considered that "one man's freedom is more important than the preservation of bare life" - 35(78%) but 29 or 64% of them also answered affirmatively to "after Your experience do you still think that committing suicide is the only way out of Your present situation". Conclusion: The results of this research show that suicide is not only an act of a desperate being but also a cry for love and its meaning.
