Encounters with difficult challenges of life inspire people to think more deeply about their spiritual and religious beliefs and the meaning of life. Spirituality, faith, and religious roots have been shown to be associated with resilient outcomes among persons experiencing adversity, violence, and trauma. While spirituality is often associated with resilient life outcomes, traditional treatment formats seldom address this dimension. Spiritual questions commonly asked by youth can be a means to enable them to gain understanding and develop a plan for spiritual growth. In this article, the author explains his definition and understanding of spirituality, along with how spiritual growth can guide youth to overcome difficult challenges in life.
