TY - JOUR PY - 1997// TI - A cone calorimetric study of flame retardance and smoke emission of PVC I. The effect of cuprous and molybdic oxides JO - Journal of fire sciences A1 - Li, Bing A1 - Wang, JQ SP - 341 EP - 357 VL - 15 IS - 5 N2 - A wealth of literature in research at molecular levels concerning the transition metals, e.g., Cu-and Mo-containing compounds, has been intensively documented for flame retardance, particularly smoke suppression, of PVC. An attempt has been made in this article aimed at performing a cone calorimetric analysis in air at irradiances of 25, 35, and 50 kWm(-2) for exploring the effect of Cu2O and MoO3 an the thermal behavior of PVC. Some mechanistic aspects on flame retardance and smoke generation of PVC formulations have also been described based upon parameters, such as TTI, HRR, EHC, SEA, and TSF: etc., taken from the cone. The comprehensive analysis of MLR, HRR, and SPR as functions of time turns out to be most informative as stated in the text.
