The measurement of visual acuity, commonly used as In index of visual performance, examines the resolution capability of the central one degree of the visual field. In practice, however, responses to visual stimuli are responses to the whole of the visual field, and experimental work has shown a high degree of interaction between the central and peripheral areas of the visual field. This paper draws attention to the importance of peripheral vision and stresses the need for a better recognition of its role when assessing visual function.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
