TY - JOUR PY - 2014// TI - The Hillsborough disaster: how it has changed UK healthcare law. Part 1 JO - British journal of nursing A1 - Griffith, Richard SP - 536 EP - 537 VL - 23 IS - 10 N2 - The Hillsborough disaster occurred on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. During the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football (soccer) clubs, a human crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others. The 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster was commemorated this year with memorial services and a toll of bells to remember the 96 who died that day. Their legacy is largely seen in safe, modern, all-seat stadia but it endures beyond football. Court cases resulting from the aftermath of the tragedy have helped shape healthcare law in the UK and in a short series of articles Richard Griffith highlights the impact the Hillsborough disaster has had, beginning with the development of the law in relation to psychiatric injury arising from another's negligent act.
