TY - JOUR PY - 2014// TI - Breaking the spiral of violence: politics and migration in the lower Triqui region JO - Latin American perspectives A1 - Pombo, María Dolores París SP - 137 EP - 153 VL - 41 IS - 3 N2 - The political culture of the Copala Triqui region has been characterized by factionalism and armed confrontation among leaders, neighborhoods, and political organizations. The political violence has led to the emigration of more than half of the population. Many families have settled in colonies close to the agricultural regions of northwestern Mexico. While migration has allowed the Triqui to overcome factionalism and armed conflict, another violence--almost invisible, unrecognized, or even considered part of everyday life, normalized--brings hunger, disease, despair, and humiliation.
