N2  - The effects of vapors of: acetaldehyde, acetic acid, acetone, ethylene glycol, isopropanol, methanol and paraldehyde; on readings of blood ethanol concentration (B.A.C.) taken by an A.L.E.R.T. roadside screening device with a J-Cal calibration accessory were examined. Vapors of these volatiles, with the exception of acetic acid and ethylene glycol, could produce significant readings, in units of "apparent B.A.C.". However substantial readings can only be produced at volatile concentrations that are expected to be toxic to humans.<p />
