Listick, Los Angeles City Health Department, supplied information on a case of chemical food poisoning folĀ­ lowing the ingestion of peanut brittle contaminated with a roach powder. Symptoms consisted of nausea and vomiting, lasting for 7.5 hours until treatment was administered. After purchase the peanut brittle was kept in a dresser drawer. Some pieces fell from the bag into the drawer and then were put back into the bag. After eating several pieces, the patient noticed the candy was covered with a blue roach powder which had been placed in the drawer several months before. Laboratory study revealed sodium flouride on the candy.
