Little is known regarding the factors and cohort specific characteristics that contribute to long-term healthy psychosocial functioning in this population. METHODS: Review of literature. RESULTS: A multitude of factors that impact psychosocial outcomes are discussed, including injury characteristics, individual characteristics, aging and cohort issues, and external environmental factors. CONCLUSIONS: There is limited research examining psychosocial functioning in older adults who have sustained a TBI. Recommendations to guide clinical care and future research are provided.
