In 2010 crashes resulted in nearly 33,000 deaths and millions of nonfatal injuries. This article describes the Injury Center's response to this public health threat from our beginnings as a small Center in 1992, current motor vehicle injury prevention priorities, and emerging road safety issues that will need attention in the future.
