This attitude has changed as awareness of domestic violence (DV) has grown. But how do responders--and the parties--respond when one or more of the persons involved in the dispute is a police officer? Many victims of DV by an officer know that when responders at the scene learn that the perpetrator is another police officer, a subtle attitude shift takes place: They are now responding not to the victim, but to "an officer in need."
