TY - JOUR PY - 2001// TI - Compstat: an analysis of an emerging police managerial paradigm JO - Policing (Bradford) A1 - Walsh, William F. SP - 347 EP - 362 VL - 24 IS - 3 N2 - Compstat is a goal-oriented strategic management process that uses technology, operational strategy and managerial accountability to structure the delivery of police services and provide safety to communities. This process originated with the New York City Police Department and is now being adapted by many law enforcement agencies throughout the USA. It thus represents an emerging police organizational management paradigm. This paper analyses the evolution of police management techniques and the emergence of this new paradigm. It concludes with an assessment of the organizational changes required for the adaptation of this process.
