SP - 81 EP - 87 VL - 4 IS - 2 N2 - This paper reports on the results of research performed at Stanford Research Institute on National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 2?12, ?Highway User Economic Analysis.? The objective of the research was to develop a manual for economic analysis to replace the 1960 AASHTO publication, ?Road User Benefit Analyses for Highway Improvements.? The resulting work, ?A Manual for User Benefit Analysis for Highway and Bus?Transit Improvements? was submitted to NCHRP as an SRI final report. In addition to reviewing the new manual's improvements of the 1960 AASHTO report and its extensions of that report's scope, this paper incorporates a general description of the new manual's contents including the overall methodology employed for the effecting of economic analysis, and concludes with suggestions for further research.
