TY - JOUR PY - 1973// TI - A dynamic control strategy and software simulation for multiple traffic intersections JO - Transportation planning and technology A1 - Howarth, A. A1 - Powner, E. T. SP - 93 EP - 103 VL - 2 IS - 2 N2 - The software simulation, which is based upon the hardware simulator at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, is written in FORTRAN IV and provides a traffic model for a network of roads arranged in any kind of geographical configuration. In addition a dynamic signal control policy has been developed. This periodically collects information from road detectors; the information is processed, signal times are adjusted and signal offsets redirected as necessary. The policy, which is simulated in the software model, may itself be tested against the model. The paper presents details of the simulation with some validating results. The dynamic policy is also described and some results given of testing it against the simulation.
