N2  - Family day care providers combine economic and family work in their own home by caring for nonfamily children. Significant differences were found among 31 home day care providers, 37 employed mothers, and 29 mothers at home (all with young children) as mothers evaluated the importance and satisfactions of work and family roles. Providers indicated highest agreement with statements describing rewards of the occupational role. Employed mothers gave the lowest and mothers at home the highest ratings for items from the Home as Haven scale. The high value that providers placed on both career and family roles has important implications for the recruitment, retention, and training of providers.<p />
