TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - A new method for work analysis JO - International journal of industrial ergonomics A1 - Leinonen, T A1 - Kisko, K. SP - 361 EP - 367 VL - 21 IS - 5 N2 - The work analysis method makes it possible to combine the data received by observing and coding videoframes with the test subject's EMG results and data on the operation of the control levers of the machine concerned. Additional data which can be inserted into the analysis include heartbeat frequency and data on the productivity of the work. The method can be modified flexibly according to the object and needs of the research, and the results can thus be used immediately for planning purposes. The method is rather difficult to implement, especially since the making of observations from the videoframes and the checking of the data at the many stages are laborious and time-consuming operations. Automation of this aspect using the most up-to-date technology is the next development target.Relevance to industryThe work analysis method has been used to analyse the work of the operator of the circular saw. The circular saw research project results are being used to improve the ergonomics of circular saws, particularly with respect to their control equipment and the improvement of safety precautions.
