TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - Anthropometry of elderly women in Poland: dimensions for design JO - International journal of industrial ergonomics A1 - Jarosz, E SP - 203 EP - 213 VL - 25 IS - 2 N2 - The demographic revolution, which manifests itself in Europe through the expansion of old age on a scale never seen before, makes us take into account the needs of elderly people when shaping the living environment. The aim of this research was to provide the anthropometric data of this population. Such data have never been developed in Poland. The results of the measurements of 33 anthropometric characteristics of 106 women aged 60 and above constitute a set of basic data for the design of functional space and devices, as well as clothes, for this age group. The values of the 5th percentile of elderly women defined in this paper determine the lower limit of the anthropometric standard for the whole adult population and thus allow transgenerational design.Relevance to industryAnthropometric data developed are used for designing equipment and clothes for the elderly. They should also be used for the needs of transgenerational design.
