TY - JOUR PY - 1980// TI - The conference contract: A system to facilitate citizen action for prevention of child abuse JO - Child abuse and neglect A1 - Fried, S. SP - 205 EP - 209 VL - 4 IS - 3 N2 - The problem of child abuse and neglect prevention is multifaceted and the solution requires a combination of efforts from the public and private sectors, interdisciplinary cooperation, and collaboration between professional and volunteer efforts. Activity must occur at the national, state and especially the community level. To integrate these various forces, it is extremely important to establish a viable, ongoing network of concerned people. One approach that has proved its effectiveness is to hold a conference that attracts the necessary leaders and provides an opportunity for them to have input into the solution design and to commit to its success. A particular technique at the conclusion of the conference is to conduct a contracting session, at which time individuals, organizations or agencies make a written commitment to become involved in a coordinated, comprehensive effort to achieve these goals. This paper discusses the purposes of the Conference Contract, the steps taken to insure its acceptance as a concept, examples of its results, and some implications for its replication.
