TY - JOUR PY - 1982// TI - Accidents and progress of technology in Finnish industry JO - Journal of occupational accidents A1 - Saari, J. SP - 133 EP - 144 VL - 4 IS - 2-4 N2 - The past thirty years have been a period of many structural and technological changes in Finnish society. This paper describes the overall situation in occupational accidents in Finland during this period.Accident incidence in three industries is analysed. These branches represent different types of technological progress.Fairly rapid mechanization took place in the construction industry in the late fifties and early sixties. The wood and wood products industries experienced rapid automation during the seventies. In the metal industry technological development has been steadier than in the two other industries, but the expansion rate of this industry has been high. The analysis gives rise to the hypothesis that the most adverse development in accidents can be expected during periods of rapid changes of any type (technological, structural etc).
