SP - 432 EP - 436 VL - 53 IS - 8 N2 - The relationship between the phenomenon of violence in families and the different kinds of children maltreatment is very well-known. Nevertheless, the direct and sometimes the indirect consequences, in the middle or long-term, on children seem to be unknown. The objectives of this text were to determine the nature of specific violence based on sex in Lomé and to have a critical analysis of opinions and perceptions of people on this phenomenon, through interviews and discussions in the focus groups. A contrast was noticed between the knowledge of the phenomenon of domestic violence by the public in general and its persistence in all the social groups. Sensibilisation of the professionals and researchers in the domain is very necessary in order to plan preventive actions.
