N2  - Because the existing methods of safety analysis lack an appropriate theoretical basis, their accuracy is inadequate. The purpose of this study was to develop a method of safety analysis based on a specific accident mode.The method includes a questionnaire which attempts to direct the analyst's attention to both possible sources of disturbances in the exchange of information and to possible sources of harmful energy. Each analysis is carried out using videotapes at the workplace.The aims of tests were (1) to gain experience with videotape techniques and (2) to compare the responses of persons with different types of experience with the working conditions studied. The videotapes were filmed at two factories which manufacture metal products.There were three groups of subjects in these tests. The groups differed with regard to experience with the work done in the metal industry and with regard to experience in occupational safety.The results of the interviews were compared to the companies' accident statistics, to the accident statistics of the entire country and to a thorough safety analysis carried out by other methods.<p />
