TY - JOUR PY - 1973// TI - The perception of hazard by children JO - Journal of safety research A1 - Heimstra, Norman W. A1 - Martin, G. L. SP - 238 EP - 246 VL - 5 IS - 4 N2 - A total of 1490 first, third, and fifth-grade children from rural/urban and high/low socioeconomic backgrounds were tested with the Perception of Hazard Test this test requires a subject to rate, on a five-point scale, the degree of hazard for perceived in a series of photographs. The photographs depict male and female models, eight in three years of age, in 10 different scenes which, based on epidemiological data, were determined to be potential accident scenes. Data analysis showed that the agents exit the subjects, their background, and the sex and age of the models depicted in the photographs were significant factors in determining the amount of hazard perceived by subject in any given scene.
