TY - JOUR PY - 1915// TI - Hysteria as a weapon in marital conflicts JO - Journal of abnormal psychology (1906) A1 - Myerson, A. SP - 1 EP - 10 VL - 10 IS - 1 N2 - Describes a case where hysterical symptoms seem to have been the substitute for tears in a domestic battle. The case history of an American woman aged 38 yrs, has been given, who suddenly developed paralysis on the right side of her body and complete aphonia. The absence of any organic impairment led to the diagnosis of hysteria. Details of the treatment have been provided. During treatment it was observed that the attack of paralysis and aphonia was closely linked with marital conflict. Contrary to Freudian beliefs, the inborn nature of the disease has been discussed.
