TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Analytical models of weaving area operations under nonfreeway conditions JO - ITE journal A1 - Iqbal, M. SP - 60 EP - 65 VL - 65 IS - 7 N2 - The author of this article examines two types of weaving area operations in nonfreeway conditions: basic weave and ramp weave. In the basic weave, weaving starts where a ramp is merged into the arterial and stops at the diverge point of another ramp from the arterial. Ramp weaving occurs on a segment of highway between an on-ramp followed by an off-ramp connecting an arterial with a highway. Successful operation of a weaving area requires that the speeds of several traffic streams be nearly equal. Existing analytical models of weaving area operations are evaluated and new speed models are introduced. Limitations of the new speed models are discussed and the author acknowledges that weaving under nonfreeway conditions may occur under numerous forms. Consequently, the use of the speed models is limited to certain lane configurations and traffic conditions.
