N2  - On March 8, 1985 Michigan enacted a safety belt use law that would be in effect on July 1, 1985. The purpose of this article is to explain how Michigan came to enact a safety belt use law, to show how the Michigan Section of ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) played an important support role in this effort, and to help other states that are trying to pass safety belt laws.<p />
