N2  - This article seeks to bring out some of the salient features that cause landslides in Sikkim and to spotlight on the major contributions of CRRI towards their investigation and control. Mention has been made of some major landslides that were investigated by CRRI and the techniques adopted for their control. The pioneering efforts of the institute in developing new techniques of erosion control such as asphalt mulch technique and the use of coir and/or jute netting for treatment of landslides are highlighted.
