TY - JOUR PY - 1994// TI - Brake temperature and automobile low speed stopping performance JO - Accident reconstruction journal A1 - Bayan, F. A1 - Deyerl, E. A1 - Shiu, B. SP - 52 EP - 54 VL - 6 IS - 4 N2 - A series of full scale vehicle tests were performed to quantify the effects of wheel brake component temperature on the braking performance of an automobile traveling at low speeds. These tests initiated from an investigation of an accident where the left rear brake did not possess a pad, leaving the brake pad backing in direct contact with the brake rotor when the brakes were applied. Higher-than-normal temperatures would exist at this interface as a result of this interaction. In order to examine the effects of these increased temperatures on the vehicle's stopping abilities, a vehicle was instrumented and tested on March 11, 1991.
