TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - Driving performance under antidepressants: Do selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors impair driving performance less than tricyclic antidepressants? JO - Psychopharmakotherapie A1 - Soyka, M. A1 - Schafer, M. A1 - Gartenmaier, A SP - EP - VL - 6 IS - 1 N2 - At present there are only few reliable data about psychomotor ability and driving performance of persons under anti-depressive therapy. Existing study findings about psychomotor performance of healthy volunteers and depressive patients under medication with selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) are collected and judged critically. According to the actual data SSRIs -- in contrast to many TCAs -- do not significantly impair cognitive and psychomotor function. TCAs themselves, irrespective of illness-related influences, probably impair driving performance whereas SSRIs can be judged as harmless in this respect at the actual state of knowledge.
