%X In this paper a subspace-based method is proposed for the system identification of vehicle handling dynamic models. According to vehicle performance test measures acquired from standard road test operations, the vehicle system model is identified by the method and further steady dynamic behaviours of the vehicle prototyping may be estimated and the dynamic performance of the vehicle handling can be predicted. For the purpose of reduction of cost and risk in vehicle handling performance tests, lateral dynamic behaviours of the vehicle are examined. Numerical examples are made by the present method for the vehicle's lateral dynamic behaviours under two different types of manoeuvres. It is demonstrated by comparison between simulations and experiments of understeer coefficient and overall steering ratio of the vehicle dynamic handling performance that the present method is efficient and applicable. Keywords: system identification; vehicle handling dynamics; subspace method; steady-state properties estimation; dynamic modelling.<p />
