%X This contribution dwells on popular culture in Mamluk Egypt and Syria. Following a short examination of this topic and of the sources, the study focuses on three themes: the cycle of life, the cycle of the year and sacred topography. Popular manners and customs provoked opposition from religious circles. A condensed delineation of these voices is provided at the closing part of the article.<p />
