abstract="The transgender community is disproportionately affected by violence (Wilchins, Lombardi, Priesing, &amp; Malouf, 1997). <i>Transphobia</i>—prejudice, discrimination, and gender-related violence due to negative attitudes toward transgender identity—may pose a risk factor for experiencing trauma in transgender individuals. Other risk and resiliency factors associated with experiencing traumatic violence among transgender populations are addressed in this article. Finally, culturally competent treatment suggestions are provided for clinicians working with transgender survivors of trauma in a clinical setting.<p />",
