abstract="Examined demographic, social, and clinical characteristics of 105 legal documents of suicide cases (68 men and 37 women) registered in the official archives of the district attorney of Achaia from 1970-84. According to the findings, men presented higher suicide mortality rates than women, but they did not differ in other demographic aspects (age, marital status, and place of residence) from that of women. 50% of suicide victims suffered from chronic psychiatric disorder, whereas in the rest of the cases stressful events and outside pressures were noted. More men than women had previously communicated their suicidal intention and some of them had left a written message to their family.
