abstract="A ligature mark is a significant evidence for hanging and strangulation. Based upon the pattern of ligature it can differentiate. The presence of injuries around the neck apart from ligature mark known as peri-ligature injury. It may lead to misperception of injuries directed towards homicide. A peri-ligature injury like a nail mark, finger impression are mostly seen in strangulation than hanging. So, we are reporting three such cases of suicidal hanging in which there were Peri-ligature injuries over the neck indicating homicidal nature. However, rigor mortis over the upper limb preserving the position of the hands in relation to the ligature mark and crime scene investigation confirmed that it is a straightforward suicidal hanging. © 2021, Medico Legal Society.
