abstract="Farmers are extensively using pesticides for protection of their crops from pests. In cases of accident or suicide poisoning, it is difficult to detect the type of pesticide consumed by an individual. This study, therefore, was conducted to develop an efficient method for simultaneous determination of four Pyrethroid insecticides: Allethrin, Cypermethrin, Permethrin and Transfluthrin. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques were explored for detection of Pyrethroid insecticides. Four solvent systems including Hexane, Methanol, Ethyl acetate and Acetone, were applied to evaluate the extraction efficiency of Pyrethroids from the samples collected. Hexane: chloroform (7:3) solvent system proved to be the most efficient for extracting solvent for identification of Pyrethroids from forensic samples. Picric acid was found to be the best developing reagent for the same. The results were further validated by the GC-MS and the data compared to the standards provided in the protocol. © 2020 South India Medico-Legal Association.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
