abstract="On 22 December 2017, the Italian Parliament adopted the Law No. 219/2017 which allows citizens to decide in advance whether they would accept or refuse any medical treatments in the case they lost their capacity to self-determine. However, Italy still poses an absolute ban on assisted suicide and euthanasia.
