abstract="Hanging is a very simple yet highly effective suicide method. It is one of the most commonly used suicide methods and has a high mortality rate. In situation like the allegation of postmortem suspension, the internal findings of the neck structures play an important role to assess the manner of death of the individual. The ligature mark is a vital evidence of asphyxial deaths. Various external and internal findings in neck provide vital clue to the autopsy surgeon in diagnosing the manner of death. There is a need to review the injuries occurring and to relate them to relevant characteristics of the victim, the ligature employed and the mode of suspension and also to compare the findings of the study with the established literature. © 2018 South India Medico-Legal Association.
