abstract="OBJECTIVE: To present an update on dissociative identity disorder through the presentation of a case and a theoretical review of the concept. Clinical case: A 17-year-old male admitted to the Acute Unit due to a suicide attempt, that during his admission manifested the coexistence of three subjective identities alternately, together with episodes of memory alteration and emotional instability. <br><br>RESULTS: Both the clinical interviews and the evolution of the case confirm the existence of a Dissociative Identity Disorder with a traumatic basis in relation to highly stressful events in early childhood and a pathological establishment of attachment with the main caregivers. <br><br>CONCLUSIONS: Dissociative identity disorder is a complex psychopathology characterised by alterations in memory and identity.
