abstract="This research aimed to determine the correlation between depression and hypothy-roidism in patients who attend the Endocrinol-ogy service in the external consultation area of the Ambato District Hospital, the sample size is made up of 34 patients of both genders, with an age range between 14 and 75 years of age. Depression is a frequent disease within the primary healthcare system, which encompasses psychological and physical symptoms characterized by a low mood, where thoughts of death and suicide attempts can be found in the most severe cases. Evaluated through the Beck depression question-naire that allows us to assess the levels of depres-sion. As for hypothyroidism refers to an altera-tion of the thyroid hormones that influence the correct functioning of the organism, between the hormones we have the TSH free T4, this disorder also causes psychological and physical symptoms, for the exploration of this variable has been used The laboratory test confirming the results based on a reference value.Statistical analysis of Chi-square was used to analyze the data, using the statistical program SPSS (24.0), which showed that (x2 (1) = 4,568; p <0,05; n= 34) showed a bilateral asymptotic significance of 0,033; thus finding 0,033> 0,05 established, thus proving that there is dependence between the variables and therefore a relationship between depression and hypothyroidism. © 2018, Instituto de Investigaciones Clinicas.
