abstract="Roaccutane® (Isoretinoin) is a vitamin A like drug used to treat severe acne. It is usually administered orally but if there is no response, it can be applied as a topical ointment. There have been reported side effects such as birth defects, liver problems, hair loss, increased risk of cardiovascular disorders and increased triglyceride levels. Less commonly there are also reports of increased depression, suicide rates and inflammatory bowel disease. This case study outlines the presentation of a young man with acute liver failure who had taken Roaccutane® for approximately six weeks for severe acne. He ceased the treatment when it was noticed that he was jaundiced, however he presented with acute liver failure two months later and he then underwent a liver transplant.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
