abstract="The study was conducted in two tertiary care hospital settings; one a government hospital, the Assam Medical College Hospital and the other is a well-known private hospital, the Aditya Hospital, Assam. The study revealed that (i) the male victims of violence outnumbered their female counterparts but suicides and self-harm attempts were almost equal for both the sexes; (ii) interpersonal violence cases were more prevalent in the case of males (931) in comparison to females (256); (iii) violence was more common among the illiterates (26.04%) while the prevalence rate of violence was zero in case of professionally qualified people; (iv) married people were more involved in self-inflicted (52.87%) and interpersonal violence (52.81%) cases as compared to the unmarried respondents; and (v) the study noticed that 90 per cent of the self-inflicted violence occurred at the homes of the victims whereas 54.30 per cent of the inter-personal violence occurred on the streets.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
