abstract="In a semi-standardized interview, one or repeated episodes of self- cutting acts not accompanied by frank suicidal ideation and typically performed during adolescence or as young adult were reported in the history of 18 % of 100 male patients with alcoholism hospitalized for detoxification. Self-cutters developed alcoholism at a lower age and had a higher rate of additional drug use disorders than non-mutilating alcoholics. Significant associations were found between the self-cutting syndrome and a history of suicide attempts, tattooing, spontaneous aggressive behaviour, delinquency, and a diagnosis of personality disorder, namely borderline personality disorder.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
