abstract="OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influential factors on the course and outcome of schizophrenia. <br><br>METHODS: Eighty-two schizophrenics in Sijiqing village, Haidian District, Beijing were investigated and evaluated using standard assessment instruments. The information collected from field investigation was analyzed by means of multivariate analyses of stepwise regression and path analysis. <br><br>RESULTS: 1. About one third of these patients had a good outcome, but other two thirds didn't; 2. The six main factors correlated to schizophrenic outcome included: numbers of psychotic episodes, duration of persistent treatment, suicide behavior, negative symptoms, economic status of the patients' family and the trend of schizophrenic development over time; 3. Interaction existed in these six factors. <br><br>CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the prevention of schizophrenic deterioration should be emphasized on the control of the increasing development trend over time and to relieve negative symptoms.<p /><p>Language: zh</p>",
