abstract="From times immemorial females have suffered violence at the hands of men as wife, mother, sister etc from the time of conception (female feticide) to death. There is increase in crimes against womeneven in present era is deeply embedded in our society which is matter of great social concern. This study was undertaken in the Department of Forensic Medicine, MMCRI, Mysore. It was a retrospective study conducted between Jan 2013 to Dec 2015. During the 2 year period total of 380 autopsies were conducted on females aged between 18-50 years. In our study majority of the females were married and in the age group 18 - 25 years. Most of them had studied less than 12th standard. The commonest cause of death was burns and they occurred during the period 12pm to 6 pm.
