abstract="The aim of this study is to evaluate the epidemiological particularities of foreigners' death in the region of Sousse in Tunisia and to identify certain prevention priorities. <br><br>MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective and descriptive study of foreign subjects autopsied at the department of forensic medicine of the university hospital Farhat Hached of Sousse - Tunisia during the period from 2006 to 2011. <br><br>RESULTS A total of 220 cases were collected, representing 9.8% of corpses autopsied at the department. The average age was of 65.5 years with a sex ratio of 2.05. Two peaks of frequency were noted corresponding to the age range from 51 to 70 year (46.4%) and from 71 to 90 years (38.6%). The victims were tourists for the greater part (183/220) and native of 29 different countries among which 207 (94%) of European countries. The tourist journeys were in purpose of leisure activities and relaxation for 171 victims (77.8%), to health goal for 6 victims (2.7%) and to sexual tourism for 6 others victims (2.7%). The death was natural for 170 victims (77.3%) and violent for 49 (22.3%). Accidents were the most incriminated cause of violent death with a 75.5% rate of cases, against a 18.3% rate for homicides and 6.1% for suicides. <br><br>CONCLUSION Prevention of death during a journey starts with the consideration of the preexistent morbidities of elderly tourists and the fight against sex tourism. © 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
