abstract="The significance and causes of corrugation of gravel roads are discussed together with an account of theories advanced over the past 60 years. A test rig to simulate the performance of a vehicle wheel with hard and soft tires on various soil compositions of road surface is described and results analyzed. It is concluded that the main factors in the formation of corrugations are the effective stiffness of the tired wheel and the sand/clay ratio of the road surface soil. <p>Language: en</p>",
