abstract="The objective of this study was to estimate any improvement in overall efficiency of high-demand intersections in Charlotte due to the addition of dual left-turn lanes. Efficiency in terms of overall intersection delay per vehicle was calculated and compared with overall intersection delay per vehicle for the same intersections with single left runs. Comparisons were made of MOEs estimated through simulations of the intersections with and without dual left-turn lanes. Results show that the decrease in overall intersection delay ranged from 6% to 37% by using dual left-turn lanes in place of a single left-turn lane with proportionately more green time. Analyses results indicate that the installation of dual left turn lanes is favorable in intersections containing high volumes of left-turning traffic and opposing traffic. <p>Language: en</p>",
