abstract="The use of light-emitting diodes (LED) in light-emitting highway devices in Maryland, US is discussed. LEDs are considered as an alternative to incandescent lamps in highway devices because of their low power consumption and potential longevity. The Maryland State Highway Administration began investigating the feasibility of using LED in light-emitting highway devices in 1988. Based on field tests and research, the red and green LED signals with ball type lenses were approved for use in Maryland. <p>Language: en</p>",
